Hundreds of 18-wheelers and semis roll into your truck wash every day. This industrial-sized behemoth gets pretty wet, soapy and humid during the day so the lights inside need to be safeguarded against moisture and condensation. But when the power goes out at night its like being stuck in a cave hundreds of feet below the Earth! That's pretty scary in there, so the geniuses at Philips Bodine developed the 2 bulb 700 lumen damp location emergency ballast for just such a scenario.
These emergency backup devices have an extra silicone sealant applied to the battery and circuitry, qualifying it as a UL Listed device for Damp Locations. This sealant will keep moisture from affecting the battery and other vital electrical components. The BDL600 also meets UL and NFPA 101 guidelines for emergency lighting, and will keep two linear, U-bent or long compact fluorescent tubes burning for at least 90 minutes during a power failure. However, the actual runtime is anywhere between 2 and 4 hours.
The BDL600 is your best friend in damp locations. It can be placed remotely away from the fixture (half the distance of the AC ballast to the bulbs) in humid areas. It can also be placed outside if there is sufficient coverage over the unit to protect from rainfall. Its also a great component inside vapor-proof and gasketed luminaires made for Wet Locations.
In the style of most of Bodine ballasts, this damp location fluorescent battery pack has a bright red heavy-gauge steel case. The red color will help to distinguish it from the normal AC ballast. A label on the top of the can clearly displays the brand, model number and the ubiquitous UL stamp. This label also displays a closed recycling loop, letting you know that the casing was made of recycled, non-toxic steel.
